MUS 212 - Music Theory IV Units: 3 Twentieth Century music up to the present; extension of tonality; non-tonal music. Analysis and compositional exercises.
Prerequisites: MUS 211 and MUS 215. Co-requisites: MUS 216. Equivalent Quarter Course: MUS 2033. Possible Instructional Methods: Entirely On-ground. Grading: A-F or CR/NC (student choice). Course Typically Offered: Variable Intermittently
Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
- Demonstrate skill in analyzing and writing music in various 20th and 21st century musical styles.
- Understand 20th and 21st century music within its historical and cultural context.
- Discuss and evaluate modern music, from an aesthetic and technical point of view.
- Implement the principles and concepts studied in class via performance on your major instrument or voice.
