MUS 212 - Music Theory IV


Units: 3
Twentieth Century music up to the present; extension of tonality; non-tonal music. Analysis and compositional exercises. 

Prerequisites: MUS 211 and MUS 215.
Co-requisites: MUS 216.
Equivalent Quarter Course: MUS 2033.
Possible Instructional Methods: Entirely On-ground.
Grading: A-F or CR/NC (student choice).

Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
 

  1. Demonstrate skill in analyzing and writing music in various 20th and 21st century musical styles.
  2. Understand 20th and 21st century music within its historical and cultural context.
  3. Discuss and evaluate modern music, from an aesthetic and technical point of view.
  4. Implement the principles and concepts studied in class via performance on your major instrument or voice.
