COMM 485 - Future of Media and Society


Units: 4
Study of the landscape of current and future media with the aim of creating stories about emerging media. Covers short, medium and long-term evolution in technology and culture. Uses scenario planning as a technique for considering complex, unpredictable interrelationships.

Prerequisites: Department consent.
Possible Instructional Methods: Entirely On-ground, or Entirely Online, or Hybrid.
Grading: A-F or CR/NC (student choice).
Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
  1. Think critically about long-term issues media and organizational effectiveness and sustainability;
  2. Analyze significant trends about media and digital culture;
  3. Provide evidence-based claims addressing the future of media;
  4. Imagine innovative media and organizational transformation in 2040;
  5. Identify and explain different rates of societal and natural change over time as they relate to organizational transformation.
