COMM 475 - Digital Organizational Communication


Units: 4
This course provides knowledge, skills, and terminology to understand development and management of digital economy organizations/communities. Students learn to engage with, critique, and discuss online communities through timely readings, guest lecturers, discussions, influential industry blogs and academic publications.

Prerequisites: Department consent.
Possible Instructional Methods: Entirely On-ground, or Entirely Online, or Hybrid.
Grading: A-F or CR/NC (student choice).
Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
 

  1. Describe and critique algorithms as social and organizational concerns;
  2. Define, differentiate the strategies and decision-making for the development and management of online sites and mobile apps, including an introduction to platforms, languages, products and tools for a variety of organizations;
  3. Define and differentiate product development processes that allow effective collaboration with engineers and other colleagues. The course includes hands-on working sessions, timely readings, and guest lecturers;
  4. Define, understand social technologies and to propose new ones;
  5. Demonstrate understanding and application of communication theories;
  6. Demonstrate critical understanding and application of media creation and analysis.
