CMGT 360 - Soil Mechanics and Building Foundations


Units: 3
Engineering properties of soils and rocks such as permeability, compressibility and shear strength. Site evaluation for building foundations, dams, tunnels and highways. Slope stability.

Prerequisites: CMGT 310.
Equivalent Quarter Course: CMGT 3600.
Possible Instructional Methods: Entirely On-ground.
Grading: A-F grading only.

Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
  1. Understand the physical properties and soil index properties of soil;
  2. Analyze and identify appropriate soil compaction methods;
  3. Understand the fundamentals of foundation design.
