TED 512 - Curriculum & Instruction: Science in the Multiple Subject Classroom


Units: 3
Theory, content, and methods of teaching science in the elementary classroom. Emphasis on hands-on learning, STEM instruction, current science standards and framework and sheltered instruction for English Learners/Emergent Bilinguals.

Prerequisites: Admission to Multiple Subject Credential Program.
Equivalent Quarter Course: TED 5357.
Possible Instructional Methods: Entirely On-ground, or Entirely Online, or Hybrid.
Grading: A-F grading only.
Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
  1. Explore and practice inquiry and other hands-on teaching techniques for science lessons (via NGSS and CCSS).
  2. Apply techniques for improving accessibility of science content and skills for all students, including those who are linguistically diverse.
  3. Identify and practice the best approaches for science lesson management, including preparation, techniques for guiding exploration and helping students build science skills, and managing groups of students engaging in active learning.
  4. Integrate authentic uses of technologies in lesson plans for the elementary science classroom.
  5. Develop and demonstrate authentic assessment strategies for the science classroom.
