REC 363 - Recreation Therapy Process & Techniques

Recreation therapy process and techniques, including modalities and/or interventions, facilitation approaches, and intervention techniques.

Strongly Recommended Preparation: HOS 100 and REC 100.
Equivalent Quarter Course: REC 4601.
Possible Instructional Methods: Entirely On-ground, or Entirely Online, or Hybrid.
Grading: A-F grading only.
Course Typically Offered: Spring ONLY


Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
  1. Identify standards of practices in the field of Recreation Therapy
  2. Identify code of ethics that governs the field of Recreation Therapy.
  3. Examine cultural competency (e.g., social, cultural, educational, language, spiritual, socioeconomic, age, environment).
  4. Utilize modalities and/or interventions (e.g., leisure skill/education, assertiveness training, stress management, social skills, community reintegration).
  5. Identify facilitation approaches (e.g., strengths based approach, holistic approach, person-centered, palliative care).
  6. Analyze intervention techniques (e.g., behavior management, counseling skills, experiential learning).
  7. Utilize risk management and safety concerns.
  8. Examine role and function of other health and human service professions and of interdisciplinary approaches (e.g., co-treatment, consultation, referral).
  9. Identify the concept of Recreation Therapy processes and techniques
  10. Examine the role of a clinical supervisor.
