POSC 314 - State and Local Politics and Government


Units: 3
Structures, processes, policies, political culture and power distributions of governments of states, cities, suburbs, small towns, metropolitan areas and neighborhoods. Special reference to California and San Francisco Bay Area institutions and problems. Satisfies California state and local government code requirement.

Equivalent Quarter Course: POSC 3120.
Possible Instructional Methods: Entirely On-ground, or Entirely Online, or Hybrid.
Grading: A-F or CR/NC (student choice).
Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
 

  1. Understand of the workings of state and local governments and their relation to the federal government; 2. Understand the key players and political institutions in California and the Bay Area; Appreciate the role of, and limits on, local governments in setting public policy on various issues;
  2. Develop the skills to necessary to interact with or participate in local and state governments.
