ENGL 621 - African-American Literature


Units: 4
Major African-American works, authors, and literary topics of the 19th and 20th centuries.

Prerequisites: Post-baccalaureate standing.
Equivalent Quarter Course: ENGL 6690.
Possible Instructional Methods: Entirely On-ground.
Grading: A-F grading only.
Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
 

  1. Use clear and cogent prose to analyze and interpret recurring themes in selected African American literary texts.
  2. Articulate key ideas and issues in African American theoretical and critical approaches to literature.
  3. Develop written literary criticism for an academic audience.
  4. Work independently with traditional and nontraditional research.
  5. Share and present ideas, insights, and literary interpretations of literature in a collaborative, collegial environment.
