STAT 620 - Probability and Statistical Theory


Units: 4
Probability and Statistical models used in many areas. Selected topics may include: basic probability concepts, probability models (discrete, continuous, univariate, and multivariate), sampling and sampling distributions, confidence intervals, hypothesis testing, expectation and variance, and simulation.

Prerequisites: Admission to M.S. Statistics major or M.S. Biostatistics program.
Equivalent Quarter Course:

STAT 6204 and STAT 6205.
Possible Instructional Methods: Entirely On-ground.
Grading: A-F grading only.
Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:

  1. Derive and understand the theory of point and interval estimation and hypothesis testing.
  2. Formulate and model practical problems for solutions using these statistical methodologies.
  3. Produce relevant computer output using standard statistical software and interpret results appropriately.
  4. Communicate statistical concepts and analytical results clearly and appropriately to others.
