ENGL 653 - Theory and Practice of Teaching Reading to Adults


Units: 2
Focuses on current research as well as practical, innovative methods for teaching reading to adult English learners.

Prerequisites: Post-baccalaureate standing.
Equivalent Quarter Course: ENGL 6502.
Possible Instructional Methods: Entirely On-ground.
Grading: A-F grading only.
Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
  1. Use current language teaching approaches in the development and demonstration of lesson plans.
  2. Analyze learner needs to guide curricular choices.
  3. Summarize and evaluate the principles of learner-centered curricula.
  4. Tutor language learners individually or in groups.
  5. Participate in and evaluate a professional development activity.
  6. Create a curriculum vitae.
  7. Describe and evaluate ESOL materials.
