ART 315 - Ceramics III Units: 3 Advanced work in art and design with clay. Integrate new techniques while building mastery over the material. Develop a personal portfolio.
Prerequisites: ART 215. Equivalent Quarter Course: ART 3513. Repeatability: May be repeated for credit for a maximum of 6 units. Possible Instructional Methods: Entirely On-ground. Grading: A-F grading only. Course Typically Offered: Fall & Spring
Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to: - Create complex ceramic forms utilizing advanced throwing techniques slip casting, and hand building techniques;
- Reference ceramic and art history in the context of a personal body of work;
- Produce and apply advanced surface treatment to a variety of different forms examples may include slip washes, layering commercial glazes, experimentation with under firing and over firing glazes, researching altering and mixing custom glazes;
- Develop a personal portfolio in ceramics;
- Examine and describe their personal work in relation to historical and contemporary developments, trends, materials, and approaches in ceramics;
- Display a proficiency in critiques with groups, individuals, and written contexts;
- Participate effectively and safely in loading, firing, and unloading different kilns using a variety of firing schedules.
