ART 330 - Typography I

History, theory and contemporary practices of typography in the practice of design. Topics cover typographic terminology, conventions, typesetting fundamentals, grid systems, type as visual/verbal expressive communication and development of unique alphabet letterforms.

Prerequisites: ART 102.
Equivalent Quarter Course: ART 3815.
Possible Instructional Methods: Entirely On-ground.
Grading: A-F grading only.

Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:

Research, identify and distinguish between typographic forms;
Recognize the significant communication role of typography in graphic design messages, its best use practices and use of form to visually convey meaning;
Setup and apply conventional formatting structures to type and publishing formats;
Effectively organize text and image relationships within compositional space, utilizing the elements and principles of design;
Create design work that conveys craft and attention to detail in implementing typographic structures.
