ART 272 - Painting II

Varied approaches to painting through class projects. Contemporary uses of the media, technical demonstrations and critiques. Focus on developing an open, personal process and body of work.

Strongly Recommended Preparation: Art 100.
Prerequisites: ART 172.
Equivalent Quarter Course: ART 3212.
Repeatability: May be repeated for credit for a maximum of 6 units.
Possible Instructional Methods: Entirely On-ground.
Grading: A-F grading only.
Course Typically Offered: Fall & Spring

Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:

Competently employ a range of painting materials, mixed media and techniques to construct paintings and supports;
Safely use, store, recycle and dispose of materials in a healthy, environmentally conscious manner;
Create artworks showing understanding of composition, color, independent thinking and inventiveness;
Express familiarity with a broad context of historical and contemporary practices in painting, including current concepts relating to identity, social, political and cultural issues;
Evaluate one’s own and other’s artwork using appropriate terminology in both oral and written formats.
