SOC 423 - Social Movements and Social Change

An examination of social movements and political actions. Theoretical perspectives on the origins, development, and outcomes of various social movements will be examined. Special attention is paid to historical and contemporary movements that emerged in response to social inequalities.

Possible Instructional Methods: Entirely On-ground.
Grading: A-F grading only.

Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:

Students will learn to analyze different theoretical approaches to origins of social movements in general and specific movements in particular. (maps to PLO 6)
Students will be encouraged to engage in respectful and open-minded discussions with others about diverse and controversial ideas and perspectives. (PLO2)
Students will be expected to understand the role of social inequality and cultural differences in shaping grassroots and organized responses to social, economic and political policies and practices. (PLO 3)
