CHEM 415 - Inorganic Chemistry Laboratory

Units: 2
Laboratory experience in the preparation and characterization of main group element inorganic compounds and transition metal coordination complexes.

Prerequisites: CHEM 410 with grade C- or better.
Equivalent Quarter Course: CHEM 4180.
Possible Instructional Methods: Entirely On-ground.
Grading: A-F grading only.
Course Typically Offered: Spring ONLY

Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
  1. explain basic chemical principles of inorganic chemistry;
  2. synthesize main group inorganic compounds and transition metal coordination complexes;
  3. measure the chemical and spectroscopic properties of main group inorganic compounds and transition metal coordination complexes;
  4. suggest changes to an experimental procedure that should improve the yield of a synthesis, facilitate the conduct of the experiment, or generally improve its outcome;
  5. discuss the objectives, setup, and results of the experiments conducted in formal written lab reports written in a style that mimics a publication in a peer-reviewed chemistry journal.
