CRJ 340 - Advanced Criminal Investigation

A continuation of CRJ 220. The exploration of investigative problems in major crimes. Analysis of role of criminal investigator and the legal use of scientific aids to investigation. Case history, examination and analysis.

Prerequisites: CRJ 220.
Equivalent Quarter Course: CRJA 3400.
Possible Instructional Methods: Entirely On-ground, or Hybrid.
Grading: A-F grading only.

Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:

Appraise how law constrains and facilitates criminal investigations, policies, and practices;
Analyze and evaluate major procedures in processing crime scenes including explaining and examining basic and major investigative procedures and best practices;
Explain the fundamental nature of investigative interviewing, and analyze (or design) an interview utilizing the principles of a competent interview;
Explain the function of physical evidence in the solution of crime; select and interpret physical evidence as a source of information in an investigation; and draw appropriate inferences from physical evidence results;
Compare and contrast the investigative tools used in solving a range of crimes and offenses.
