Seminar in history and philosophy of anthropological thought: its place among the sciences and the humanities, schools of thought and the respective contributions of eminent anthropologists.

Prerequisites: Senior Standing.
Equivalent Quarter Course: ANTH 4910.

Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:

identify, summarize, and sequence the basic schools of anthropological thought;
discuss the major theoretical developments in anthropology since its inception as a discipline in the late nineteenth century to the present day;
compare American anthropology with British and French anthropology;
discuss the role of anthropological theory in social research.
