Early Childhood Development Certificate

Completion of the Early Childhood Development Certificate Program enables students to complete the required Early Childhood Education or Child Development coursework for the first 3 levels of Child Development Permits (the Assistant Permit, the Associate Teacher Permit, and the Teacher Permit), specified by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing. These permits are required for teaching at early childhood care and education settings for children from birth to 5 years of age. Most of the courses for the Certificate can be applied to the Human Development Major with Early Childhood Development Option, if students wish to continue to obtain a BA.

Other Undergraduate Degree Requirements


In addition to major requirements, every student must also complete the University requirements for graduation which are described in the Undergraduate Admission and Degree Information & FAQ  chapter in the front of this catalog. These include the General Education-Breadth requirements; the second composition (ENGL 1002 ) requirement; the cultural groups/women requirement; the performing arts/activities requirement; the U.S. history, U.S. Constitution, and California state and local government requirement; the University Writing Skills Requirement; and the residence, unit, and grade point average requirements.
