CIVE 435 - Highway and Pavement Design


Units: 3
Highway classification; analysis of factors in developing a transportation facility; highway geometrics design and safety standards; Analysis, behavior, performance, and structural design of highway flexible and rigid pavements; climate factors, drainage, traffic loading analysis, and life cycle cost analysis.

Prerequisites: CIVE 330 and CIVE 361
Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground.
Grading: A-F grading only.
Course Typically Offered: Fall ONLY


Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
  1. Understand the factors that affect the development of a transportation facility.
  2. Evaluate the sustainability of highway and pavement infrastructure.
  3. Create highway and road geometrical designs that fulfill regulatory, traffic and safety standards.
  4. Create structural designs of flexible and rigid pavements.
