ART 352 - Web Design II: Screen Interactions


Units: 3
Intermediate level web Designers and Fine Artists explore advanced interactivity for the Web. Course covers audio, video, animation, dynamic data, user-centered design, HCI and accessibility. Students create and publish websites and web apps solo and in teams.

Prerequisites: ART 152 and ART 251.
Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground.
Grading: A-F grading only.
Course Typically Offered: Fall ONLY


Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
 

  1. Define and name the visible, semantic and structural components of websites, conceptual tools such as wireframes and stile tiles and data formats such as JSON;
  2. Explain the process of creating accessible, search optimized websites from idea to finished published product and explain the relevance of design insights such as Hicks and Fitts laws, the 80/20 rule, desire lines on the process of successful design;
  3. Create websites that use best practices for search and accessibility based on html, css and JavaScript, developed with awareness of user-centered design practices, mobile first and responsive design strategies;
  4. Present web based solutions to an audience with clear conceptual and technical explanations and justifications;
  5. Create web sites and web app from idea to finished product including supporting deliverables such as style tiles, wireframes, design documents, analytics, dynamic data, and version management;
  6. Critique web based projects based on best practices, conceptual, aesthetic and technical criteria.
